So, you buy something months ahead as a Christmas present, knowing it won’t get opened and used for a while, past the return date window in Amazon. And, I got this as one of those presents, and living in Alaska the snow finally is melted away enough to try it out. And of course it doesn’t work. Brand new battery, no matter where you turn the knob it just squeals at you, useless. But some multi-billionaire is racking up the bucks on us poor slobs, their words, that buy their crap only to find out it is crap. Hey, this is just my case, maybe it works for everyone else, but you can imagine my disgust that someone bought this as a thoughtful gift, and it is crap. Into the trash it goes.

came on time. packaged well. No battery but I knew that before hand. Unboxed, read manual, put battery in, turned on and it worked. Have used this pointer many times. It has been cached with mud and dirt and still works. just wipe off with damp rag. price is very reasonable for beginners in detecting, as I am. will probably upgrade to a waterproof pointer later but as of now ill keep using this one as its doing the job nicely. Very satisfied

Getting back into metal detecting I wanted one of these pointers. After watching numerous YouTube videos I knew about what to expect from this particular style pinpointer. And the one I got has pretty much the limited range as was depicted in the videos. The probe almost needs to be touching a piece of metal to detect it. Larger metal chunks are easier than tiny ones. And depending on the soil, certain soils can make it more difficult for the probe to detect metal. So why get something that isn’t the most powerful tool available? In my case it was because this one was 1/5 the price of the top shelf unit. Maybe later I will save up and get a more expensive pinpointer, but for now this one suits my needs and my limited budget.I was expecting because of the low price to maybe be getting a knock-off brand device, but the Pinpointer I received came with an instruction sheet with the First Texas Products branding on it, so I have to assume it is a genuine product. I have one of their Fisher brand detectors and I’m very happy with it.

BH HANDHELD PINPOINTER MODIFICATION …. I purchased this pinpointer along with the BHD 3300/headphones package offered on Amazon. I initially noticed that its sensitivity range was very limited…like 1″ max…so I didn’t even use it for the first couple missions….but realized I needed to figure out something to speed up my digs. This is what I needed to do to get this pinpointer into a state of usefulness. BB size target = 1″ ….soda cap = 2″ …. larger items = 4+”. replaceable highlighter cap is for constant tip wearing out…zip tie keeps the sensitivity in place at max…(still needs to be adjusted periodically)..small screw on side just outside of detection range gives more sensitivity.. on/off switch modification added so I don’t have to touch the sensitivity setting/factory power on off switch…lots of black tape for broken battery cover and other concerns….I have way more time than money….lol

I might be a bit biased, but this little metal detector saved me some decent money and the wrath of my wife. You see, we just got married. When we were buying wedding bands, I chose the comfortable but slightly snug fit. Of course with my vaaaast history of wearing rings, I decided to ignore my wife’s comments about getting it smaller because it seemed too loose.Well, winter came a long; and as I was cleaning the snow off the car window with my bare hands, the ring flew off my finger and into the snow. Fail! Lost the ring, and definitely deserved a “told you so” from my wife. I spent hours looking for it. Even when the snow started to melt, I couldn’t find it. So, in order to salvage what little dignity I had, I bought this little device as a long shot.Well, I found it in about 5 minutes. Victory! Its range is pretty short. We are talking less than 1 inch from the tip. But if you know where you are looking, it works well. It is not the best idea for large patches. Honestly, I probably got a bit lucky, but I felt pretty sure it was in a 6 foot radius from my car windshield. It may really only deserve 4 stars, but how can I not give it 5 with a story like that?

This pin-pointer works as it should, detecting the item you are digging for within an inch or so of the probe IF CALIBRATED JUST SO.The only fault I find with it is that the calibration can drift off a little and you will have to readjust often to insure what you are hunting for is detected. I’ve had really nice success with it regardless of this situation and can definitely say that this, and the harbor Freight unit should BOTH be in your bag. There’s something wrong with this world when the pin-pointer costs more than your detector, hence why I never bought a Garret unit. This gets you what you need on the cheap without putting THAT cart before the horse. Play with it, learn its temperament, and go have fun! THose couns won’t dig themselves 🙂

I made a mistake in buying this product. It’s worthless as a “helper” to metal detecting. Absolute junk. You turn the thing on and it already screeches for some reason, as if the entire world is filled with metal that it’s “detecting”. Adjust the knob to where the screeching stops. Then what? You have to actually touch a piece of metal with it before it sounds. And you have to be able to actually SEE that metal with your own eyes first, because you can’t probe underground with the tip. Dirt interferes with it. Any dirt on it, and it doesn’t sound. I have found absolutely no use for this piece of junk whatsoever in metal detecting. Buy something else for this dubious “hobby”. I’m finding the whole thing a waste of time and money. But, like everything else in life, see for yourself…

I bought this pinpointer when I first started metal detecting. Yes, it was of some help but not a lot. I basically had to touch the coin for it to alarm. Plus, the alarm noise is way too low. But the thing I hated most was that the battery compartment cover would just randomly fall off. You can fix that with electrical tape or whatever, but it’s a hassle. To summarize, it’s better than nothing but not by much. I got so frustrated that I bought a Garret Pro Pointer, which is light years better.

Dont fall for the five stars like i did. Bought it for Granny because she loves metal detecting. This with its great reviews along with other accsesories it was the perfect Christmas gift. When I seen her again in April she gave it back and said it dont work right. Now I read that the return date is past. Most people her age are used to brick and mortor stores and quick returns. Sorry Grammy ….
