This thermometer worked perfectly the first time I used it – stuck in a thick meatloaf while it cooked in the oven.Other reviews mention the device reading wrong sitting on the counter or similar, but these are because buyers are confused by the needle, made worse by an incorrect answer to one of the questions – the long end of the needle is the correct end for reading the thermometer and points down to the right at room temperature. Since the scale starts at 120 degrees F, 70 degrees F is going to be way below that starting point. When someone states it reads about 140 degrees sitting on the counter, that’s where the short end of the needle points, which is the wrong end of the needle. Many other reviewers were similarly confused by thinking the short end is the right end.I have another cheaper thermometer with a much wider range that I always felt was off by about 10 degrees F because it reads 60 degrees at room temperature. When both were placed in hot water, the cheap one read 135 degrees when this new one read 145 degrees.I would highly recommend this thermometer, but be sure to read the correct end of the needle!

Piece of junk! Used it just once since ordering but past return time frame (I don’t bake much) – the temperature in just ½ hr was 180 degrees. I checked if the probe was seating in the middle of the roast – it was. Obviously a 41/2 lb roast beef couldn’t have been done in 30 min. When the probe cooled off I noticed that the indicator was not at zero mark but at 140. Had I noticed that when it arrivedI would’ve returned it. Broken right out of the box… So much for Taylor quality!

This is one of about a dozen meat thermometers I’ve owned over the past two decades and it’s probably the worst. I bought it primarily for cooking turkeys. It is meant to be inserted and left in the bird or roast for the entire cooking process as opposed to instant read thermometers. I picked this one for the large dial so that I could potentially read the temp without lifting a 20+ pound bird out of the oven. The thermometer also boasts a pointer on the dial which you supposedly set to the temp you want to reach. Great idea but it popped off when I removed it from the first bird……actually I hadn’t even gotten the pan out of the oven when I heard the plastic pointer drop to the floor.A few days after my first use, I took it from the drawer and noticed that it wasn’t registering correctly. The needle was showing over 180° in my kitchen drawer. I don’t think so. Despite the tiny dials, I’ll be switching back to instant read thermometers.Aldo, the probe on this thermometer is so thick that it isn’t useful for any meat item less than 3-4 inches thick at a minimum. So turkeys and larger roasts only.

I know I am reading the correct end of the red pointer. It never went past 130 degrees while cooking my turkey. I put in a digital thermometer and it read as 160. After the temp reached 165 (according to digital, still 130 with this thermometer), I took the bird out and flicked the thermometer with my fingernail and it jumped to 140, then 145. A few more flick and some repositioning and it didn’t go up. The turkey was fully cooked, but I surely would have burnt it, if I relied on this meat thermometer.

This thermometer has a very large face and the needle swings through a very large range so slight changes in temperature result in the needle noticeably moving for accurate results. There are no markings for below 120f but the marked range is perfect for cooking meats or brewing beer as temperature graduations are marked down to the single degree f. There are no Celsius markings. If you want extreme precision there is way to calibrate the thermometer. Mine seems to be off by by less than a degree f and is very repeatable. It is slow to come up and stabilize on a temp which would not be a problem if you leave it in a piece of meat while cooking. If you just stick it into something you’ll see the needle quickly move but as it approaches temp the needle moves slower and slower (as you’d expect). It gets there but it will test your patience slightly if you’re accustomed to a fast responding digital.

Bought in April, used twice. The readings felt a bit off. Anyway, it’s may and this guage is kaputt. The needle does not move. It was stored properly in a drawer and cleaned only with wipes. Poor quality. Better off spending a few more $ wnd buying a better product. Waste of money.

This is a Meat Thermometer I can read and understand. I LOVE this thermometer. The face, print, and numbers are big enough to see. I have had other thermometers that were so hard to read, I couldn’t tell what was happening. As well, the indicator is moving accurately – not like the last tiny one I bought, which was all over the place. I like being able to move the black arrow to the setting I want to reach. None of the stores I checked, including Bed, Bath and Beyond, Target, and Fred Meyer had anything as helpful as this thermometer. I can definitely recommend it.

It works. It is oven safe, but condensation got inside and I can’t remove the condensation without taking the thermometer apart and I can’t take it apart without breaking the thermometer.
